The Art of Indian Asia is a unique work of scholarship and photography in two volumes (each sold separately). This is the second volume, which contains the photographic illustrations; the first volume, available separately, contains the text. Together, the two volumes present a comprehensive view of Indian art, spanning from 3000 BC to the twentieth century and an area from Afghanistan to Bali. The volume of text combined with the volume of photographs form an "imaginary temple" that conveys the spiritual messages of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

It is recommended that readers buy both volumes of The Art of Indian Asiabecause together they form an integrated work---Volume 1 containing only the text and Volume 2 containing only the photographs.

Biografie (Joseph Campbell)

Joseph Campbell (1904 - 1987) gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Mythenforscher des 20. Jahrhunderts. Als Professor und Autor machte sich der studierte Sprach- und Literaturwissenschaftler einen Namen in der Fachwelt. Erst nach seinem Tod wurden er und seine Arbeit einem breiten Publikum bekannt: Im Jahre 1988 wurde erstmals die Interview-Reihe Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth, in der Campbell mit dem Journalisten Bill Moyers über die Rolle der Mythologie in der Gesellschaft spricht, im amerikanischen Fernsehen ausgestrahlt - der Eindruck auf das Publikum war überwältigend.
