Biografie (John Cullen Murphy)
John Cullen Murphy, geboren am 3. Mai 1919 in New York,§gestorben am 2. Juli 2004 in Greenwich, Connecticut.§§Bereits als Neunjähriger besuchte er Samstagskurse am Chicago Art Institute, mit elf besucht er die Grand Central School of Arts in New York. Als Schuljunge verdiente er Geld damit, Boxer zu zeichnen und zu karikieren. Mit 15 lernte er zufällig einen bekannten Zeitschriftenillustrator kennen, der sein Talent erkannte, ihn förderte und ihm ein Stipendium am Phoenix Art Institute New York City vermittelte.§1950 entstand sein erster Comic, der Boxer-Strip Big Ben Bolt, den er bis 1970 zeichnete.§Ab 1970 half Murphy dem in seiner Nachbarschaft lebenden Hal Foster bei seiner Arbeit an Prinz Eisenherz. 1971 bereits bestimmte ihn Foster zu seinem Nachfolger, aber erst ab 1979 war er alleine für die Zeichnungen verantwortlich. Murphys Sohn Cullen schrieb die Texte, seine Tochter Mairead übernahm das Lettering und das Kolorieren. Im März 2004 übernahm Gary Gianni die Serie, Murphy starb einige Monate später, er war 85 Jahre alt.
