Klappentext

While interpretations of Maypoles vary, the most enduring explanations for erecting a decorated tree trunk on May 1st have consistently centered on winter's conclusion, nature's renewal, and the fertility of plants and animals - celebrations often marked by exuberant festivities across numerous regions worldwide. Celebrated as a pinnacle of community life throughout the year, these events are enthusiastically organized by dedicated volunteers. Beyond delicious food and beverages - though these alone certainly draw many participants - traditional festivities frequently feature enchanting dances circling the tree itself. Moreover, related customs exist, including the Pentecost Pole, the Parish Fair Pole, and the Jester's Pole, among others. This beautifully illustrated book takes readers on a short but captivating global journey to locations where such celebrations unfold, offering concise explanations, vivid descriptions, and striking imagery. One of the author's heartfelt aspirations is to inspire readers to experience the magic of attending one of these remarkable festivals firsthand.
