Gerd Ganteför ist Physikprofessor an der Universität Konstanz. Er forscht im Bereich Nanotechnologie und beschäftigt sich unter anderem mit Energiespeicherung in Automobilen. Weiterhin ist er Research Professor im Department of Chemistry an der Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA. In Konstanz hat er eine erfolgreiche Vorlesung über Energie und Klima aufgebaut.
