Fred Vargas, Jg. 1958, Mutter eines Sohnes, Archäologin im Hauptberuf, lebt in Paris. Ihre erfolgreichen Krimis schreibt sie fast ausschließlich im Urlaub. 2004 erhielt die sie den Deutschen Krimipreis und 2012 wurde sie im Rahmen des internationalen Krimifestivals 'Mord am Hellweg' mit dem Europäischen Preis für Kriminalliteratur (Ripper Award) ausgezeichnet.
