Klappentext
Franz Marc's work captivates viewers with its vibrant colors and a deep connection to nature, which is particularly evident in his depictions of animals. Although the artist led a rather reclusive life, he was no loner; instead, he built an extensive network spanning Paris, Berlin, and Munich. Together with Wassily Kandinsky, he founded the editorial collective "Der Blaue Reiter" and became a passionate pioneer of modernism. His work, created between 1904 and 1914, evolved toward Cubist formal dissolution; with the outbreak of World War I, his creative output came to an abrupt end. This catalogue traces the path of a seeker who, in an era shaped by faith in progress, longed for a spiritual space beyond technology. Published to coincide with the first monographic exhibition of Franz Marc in over twenty years, it offers a comprehensive insight into the work of this extraordinary artist.
FRANZ MARC (1880-1916) is one of the most important painters of German Expressionism. His studies in literature and linguistics, along with the bilingual upbringing he received from his French mother, shaped him just as much as his intense engagement with the art of his time. He died near Verdun during World War I at the age of thirty-six.
