Das Leben eines Findelkindes

Das Findelkind Heathcliff findet auf Wuthering Heights ein neues Zuhause. Der Tod des Vaters löst in Cathys Bruder Hindley schlechte Seiten aus und Cathy und Heathcliff leiden sehr unter ihm. Hindley wird nach dem Tod seiner Frau zum Spieler und Trinker und vernachlässigt alles, sogar seinen Sohn Hareton. Um diesem Leben zu entkommen, heiratet Cathy den wohlhabenden Nachbarn Edgar Linton, obwohl zwischen ihr und Heathcliff starke Gefühle gewachsen sind. Diese Faktoren lassen Heathcliff zu einer Art Monster werden und er spielt seine Macht, die er im Laufe der Zeit erlangt, extrem aus.

Die Geschichte wird dem jungen Gentleman Mr. Lockwood, der sich in Thrushcross Grange, das an Heathcliff gefallen ist, eingemietet hat, von der Haushälterin Nelly Dean erzählt.

Die Geschichte um den Roman selbst ist ebenso spannend, wie „Sturmhöhe“ selbst. Wenn man sich vor Augen führt, wie schwer es Frauen zu dieser Zeit hatten, wundert es nicht, dass es ein Skandal war, als herauskam, dass der Roman von einer Frau geschrieben war (er erschien unter einem männlichen Pseudonym). Mich persönlich hat sehr betroffen gemacht, wie sehr alle Frauen in diesem Roman litten und wie wenig sie wertgeschätzt wurden. Gleichzeitig bin ich immer wieder erstaunt, wie großartig Emily Brontë die Geschichte gewebt hat.

Die Erzählweise (zwei Erzähler, eine Frau und ein Mann) ist großartig gewählt und im Hörbuch sehr schön umgesetzt. Mir gefällt Beate Rysopp als Nelly Dean sehr gut und Wolfgang Berger verkörpert mit seiner angenehmen Stimme den wohlhabenden Gentleman sehr gut. Die durchgehend düstere Stimmung mit nur wenigen frohen Momenten für die weiblichen Protagonisten, die extreme Boshaftigkeit der meisten männlichen Charaktere und das sich aufbauende Unheil bewegen sehr. Schön ist das nicht, doch ist es eben der Roman, der das so vorsieht. Die beiden Sprecher haben ihn mit ihren Stimmen und der Sprachmelodie hervorragend lebendig werden lassen.

Insgesamt 890 Minuten fordern vom Hörer viel – eben aufgrund des düsteren Geschehens. Dieser Klassiker ist traurig und schaurig, aber perfekt umgesetzt. Das wird von mir mit den vollen fünf Sternen belohnt.
