Biografie (Edith Hamilton)
Edith Hamilton war Direktorin einer der bekannten Mädchenschulen in den USA, nach ihrem Rückzug ins Privatleben anerkannte Expertin für das klassische Altertum. Erhielt als solche die Ehrenbürgerschaft der Stadt Athen und den Verdienstorden von Griechenland. Übersetzerin zahlreicher griechischer Dramen, schrieb einführende Werke zu Platon und zum griechischen Denken. Ihr Lebenswerk wurde mit der Ehrendoktorwürde mehrerer Universitäten - u. a. der University of Yale - ausgezeichnet.
