Della Rusk: The Last Dry Summer, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

I was right about the water. That is not what went wrong. In the summer of 1998 I was eighteen years old, working the counter at Lindquist Feed & Tack for five dollars and fifteen cents an hour, with six hundred and eighty dollars in a coffee can and a bus ticket to Billings in September. My grandmother had been trying to teach me the rods since June and I was not listening, because the part she wanted me to learn was the boring part. You walk it three times, in different directions. You do not call it out loud - not to the man paying you, not to yourself in the truck on the way home - until somebody has put a bar in that dirt and brought up mud. There was a crew in the county that summer coring deeper than anybody ever had, and one of them was twenty-two and polite about my grandmother in a way that made something in me decide to fix it. On the eighteenth of July I drove home for the rods and called a spot in front of twelve people, on ground I had walked exactly once. I was right about the water. That is not what went wrong. A prequel novella to the Bone Dry series. Read it first or read it fifth - it will change the first book either way.
