Biography (David McKee)

David McKee, geb. 1935 in Devonshire, ist freischaffender Maler und international anerkannter Bilderbuchkünstler. Noch am College begann er damit, Cartoons an die Presse zu verkaufen. Heute lebt und arbeitet er in London und Nizza. McKee hat verschiedene Charaktere erfunden und in Bücherserien entwickelt. Die berühmteste und erfolgreiche Figur ist Elmar, der bunt karierte Elefant. Er hat Fans auf der ganzen Welt. Wann David McKee Elmar erfunden hat, weiß er nicht mehr genau. Er kann sich jedoch noch gut daran erinnern, dass er zu dieser Zeit unter dem Einfluss von Paul Klee gestanden hat. Elmar ist damit nicht nur der bunteste aller Elefanten, sondern auch der mit dem berühmtesten Paten. David McKee gilt als künstlerisches Multitalent und hat zahlreiche beliebte Bilderbücher geschaffen.
