Klappentext
Alicia spent the last two decades thinking she was successfully overcoming her childhood trauma. She's educated, successful, and making all the right moves to build and maintain the stability she never knew as a child. But the demons developed in adolescence were always just below the surface. Alicia thought that merely keeping them at bay was enough. That was until she lost her wife of ten years after a long battle against cancer.
In the aftermath, Alicia quickly realized that controlling the demons was not enough. That she owes it to herself, her family, her friends, and especially Michele to not only cope but to heal. Michele was the embodiment of unconditional love, peace and the missing part of Alicia's soul. Clinging to each other through all the horrors of cancer, Alicia thought she had been a little prepared but when the end came learned she was far from it. After losing Michele, medicating herself with alcohol only allowed Alicia to release a tiny portion of the rage and helplessness that was tearing her apart. Feeling so alone it was hard to breath, she finally realized Michele would not have wanted her to be so self-destructive and that she had to a better job of taking care of their girls and grandchildren.
Alicia poured her heart into this book so others might find help in dealing with ghosts from childhood, how to call upon inner strength you didn't even know you had and that it is possible to lesson deep soul burning pain enough to become almost whole again.
Anyone reading this book while floundering through heart break and sorrow will find solace that someone had been in the same terrible place and came out the other side strong, resilient and able to move forward.
