Biografie (Alessandro Manzoni)
Geboren am 15. März 1785 in Mailand als Sohn des Grafen Pietro Manzoni. Seine Kindheit und Jugend verbringt Alessandro in diversen Ordensinternaten. 1801 kehr er zum inzwischen von der Mutter getrennt lebenden Vater zurück. Manzoni findet Zugang zu den besten Mailänder Kreisen, eignet sich freiheitliches und demokratisches Gedankengut an und schreibt erste Dichtungen. 1805 zieht er zur Mutter nach Paris und kommt mit zahlreichen Geistesgrößen der Stadt in Verbindung. Er und beschäftigt sich mit Geschichte und Literatur. 1808 heiratet er die Bankierstochter Enrichetta Blondl, mit der er neun Kinder haben wird. 1810 kehrt er nach Italien zurück. In den folgenden Jahren schreibt er u. a. geistliche Hymnen und historische Dramen. §1827 erscheint sein Hauptwerk "I promessi sposi" ("Die Verlobten"). 1837, vier Jahre nach dem Tod seiner Frau Enrichetta, heiratet Manzoni erneut. Nach dem großen Erfolg von "Die Verlobten" zieht er sich mehr und mehr zurück, gibt die Dichtung auf und widmet sich ausschließlich historischen und sprachwissenschaftlichen Studien. Er erfährt mehrere königliche Ehrungen und wird 1862 zum Vorsitzenden der "Kommission zur Vereinheitlichung der Sprache" ernannt. Alessandro Manzoni stirbt am 22. Mai 1873 im Alter von 88 Jahren, ganz Italien trauert. Verdi schrieb für ihn sein berühmtes Requiem.
