Volgodonsk (Russian: ) is a city in Rostov Oblast, Russia, located on the west bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir. Population: 165, 994 (2002 Census); 175, 593 (1989 Census); 28, 000 (1970). The town grew in size due to the construction of the Volga-Don Canal and Tsimlyansk hydroelectric dam. Volgodonsk received town status in 1956. The city's main employers are the nearby Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant and two thermal power stations. The city is a regional transport hub with the Volga Don Canal, railways and M4 highway nearby.
