Trevanian war das Pseudonym des 1931 geborenen New Yorkers Dr. Rodney William Whitaker. Schon sein Thrillerdebut sorgte für Aufsehen. Da seine Bücher so erfolgreich waren und die verschiedensten Genres abdeckten, vermutete man bald, dass mehrere Autoren hinter diesem Alias steckten.§Dr. Whitaker dagegen lebte - wie auch viele seiner Romanhelden - zurückgezogen im Baskenland und begeisterte bis zu seinem Tod im Jahre 2005 seine Fans mit seinen meisterhaft komponierten Romanen.
