Die Sängerin, Songwriterin und Schauspielerin Édith Piaf (1915-1963) gilt als Frankreichs nationale Chanteuse und wurde auch zu einem der größten internationalen Stars des Landes. Ihre Musik war oft autobiografisch, wobei ihre Lieder ihr Leben widerspiegelten. Piafs Spezialitäten waren Chansons und Balladen, insbesondere über Liebe, Verlust und Trauer.
