Das Album »Getz Au Go Go«, das 1964 bei zwei Konzerten im Café Au Go Go in Greenwich Village und in der Carnegie Hall mitgeschnitten wurde, zeigt den Tenorsaxofonisten an einem musikalischen Scheideweg. Während die eine Hälfte der Aufnahmen mit der Gastsängerin Astrud Gilberto noch der Bossa Nova gewidmet ist, stellt er in der anderen sein neues Quartett mit dem Newcomer Gary Burton am Vibrafon in den Mittelpunkt.
