Obwohl Nina Simone selbst eine produktive Songwriterin war, suchte sie sich für ihr 1969er LP Album gekonnt Klassiker aus der neuen Rockära aus.
Das Album beginnt mit einer wunderschönen, introspektiven Version von Leonard Cohens »Suzanne«, zeigt eine offensichtliche Affinität zum Sozialkommentar mit »Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season)« von The Byrds und bietet ein Trio aus Dylan-Klassikern dar: »I Shall Be Released«, »Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues« und eine dramatische Version von »The Times They Are A-Changin’«. Der Albumtitel stammt von dem Bee-Gees-Song »To Love Somebody«. Ihre Coverversion des Tracks sollte ihr zweiter Hit nach »Ain’t Got Now-I Got Life« in Großbritannien werden.
