‘Charge Group’ - the long-awaited second album from Sydney’s cinematic art-rock antiheroes. Self-recorded in a Newcastle church, mixed by Wayne Connolly at Alberts in Sydney and mastered by Greg Calbi (Grizzly Bear, The National) at Sterling Sound, NYC. The band have spawned a sonic feast of epic proportions that 2008’s acclaimed debut ‘Escaping Mankind’ hinted at, and have proven it’s entirely possible to evoke the chaotic beauty of early Velvets, the kinetic power of Battles and the heady symphonic majesty of Sigur Ros all at once. Framed by towering walls of sound, vast brooding landscapes and a mesmerising tapestry of bold genre-defiance, ‘Charge Group’ is a kaleidescopic opus of existential desperation, hopeful wide-eyed dreams and post-apocalyptic horror. Black Blackman’s surreal lyrical dystopia (visually enhanced once again with artwork by New York painter Jack Warren) is a perfect foil for CHARGE GROUP’s ambitious soundtrack – wearily traversing the bleak absurdities of the modern human condition and stirring sardonic mischief as the ship goes down.
