„Red Sea“ war das zweite Album von Warhorse, die einst von Deep Purple Basser Nick Simper gegründet wurde. 1969 hatte er seine alte Band verlassen und bildete mit Ged Peck an der Gitarre und Mac Poole, einem guten Freund von John Bonham an den Drums und Sänger Ashley Holt Warhorse. Mit diesem Line-Up bewies sich die Band als solide Rock-Band und veröffentlichte 1970 ihr gleichnamiges Debüt–Album.
Mit „Red Sea“ kommt nun ebenfalls ein lang verlorener Rock-Klassiker, bei dem Pete Parks, Gründer von Black August als Lead Gitarrist mit von der Partie war. Das Album erschien 1972 auf dem Vertigo–Label und es sollte das letzte der Band werden, die sich nach einigen personellen Veränderungen danach auflöste.
Das Album mit seinen 7 Tracks beinhaltet eine beeindruckende Version von Shirley Bassey's Hit "I (Who Have Nothing)" und neben dem Titelsong auch heftigere Rocknummern wie "Back In Time" und "Feeling Better". Die Album CD wurde mit 6 Bonus-Tracks angereichert, worunter sich ein Live-Track und 5 Demo-Versionen befinden.
Es ist an der Zeit diese unterschätzte Band wiederzuentdecken.

‘Red Sea’ was the second album by Warhorse, the band formed by former Deep Purple bass player Nick Simper. He had left his old group in 1969 and set up Warhorse with Ged Peck on guitar and Mac Poole - a mate of John Bonham - on drums. With Ashley Holt on vocals, the band proved a solid rock outfit and they released their debut ‘Warhorse’ on Vertigo in 1970.
‘Red Sea’ is truly a long lost classic. It features Pete Parks, formerly of Black August on lead guitar, having replaced Ged Peck. It originally came out in 1972 and proved to be their final release for Vertigo. The band underwent several personnel changes before finally breaking up.
Among the original seven LP tracks is a stunning version of Shirley Bassey’s hit ‘I (Who Have Nothing)’, as well as the title song, and such surging rockers as ‘Back In Time’ and ‘Feeling Better’. This is expanded with a further 6 tracks, including a live track and 5 rare demo recordings.
Time to re-discover this excellent, underrated band!
