Es ist die wohl »internationalste« Besetzung des »Rings des Nibelungen«, die je auf Tonträger verewigt worden ist: Als in Hongkong die erste »Ring«-Aufführung auf asiatischem Boden stattfand, war dies ein musikhistorisches Ereignis! Entsprechend hochkarätig fiel die Besetzung der Konzerte aus, die konzertant, nebengeräuschfrei und in bester Klangqualität von NAXOS aufgezeichnet wurden: Matthias Goernes Debüt als »Wotan« wurde über die Maßen gelobt. Mit Stuart Skelton, Michelle DeYoung, Kwangchul Youn, Simon O’Neill, u. v. a. standen weitere erprobte Wagner-Spitzensänger zur Verfügung, die teils auch »Bayreuth-erprobt« waren. Der neue Chefdirigent des New York Philharmonic, Jaap van Zweden, leitete sämtliche Aufführungen eines »Rings«, der international diskutiert wurde und höchste Beachtung fand. Erstmals enthalten nun auch der letzte Teil, die »Götterdämmerung«, erneut hochkarätig besetzt mit Gun-Brit Barkmin, Daniel Brenna und Michelle DeYoung.
