By uniting the virtuosity of the French violin school of Viotti, Kreutzer and Rode with the seriousness, perfection of form and developmental skills of the Viennese classical school of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, Louis Spohr imbued his violin concertos with both formal mastery and a delightfully nonchalant elegance. Composed between 1808 and 1825, these lyrical early Romantic concertos showcase Spohr's fine taste and impeccable craftsmanship. They are performed on this recording by the outstanding young violinist, Simone Lamsma, winner of the 2004 Benjamin Britten and the 2005 China International Violin Competitions, and runner-up at the 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.
