The musicality of Native American poet Joy Harjo's poem 'She Had Some Horses' inspired Christian Wolff to write a duo for this unusual pair of instruments: viola and zither. Following Bach (B-A-C-H) and Shostakovich (D-S-C-H), Wolff matched the 'musical' letters in Harjo's poem to pitches at the beginning of his piece. Georg Glasl (zither) and Kelvin Hawthorne (viola) gave the premiere in Munich during June of 2002.
