Das vorliegende Play-along Set (CD und Leadsheets mit Noten und Harmoniesymbolen, mit C-, Bb-, Eb-, Bass-Stimmen) enthält ein Dutzend Kompositionen des renommierten New Yorker Pianisten und Jazzlehrers Andy LaVerne, der seine Sporen in den 1970er-Jahren in der Bigband von Woody Herman und im Quintett von Stan Getz abverdiente, bevor er eigene Gruppen, vor allem Trios, leitete (viele CDs unter eigenem Namen vor allem bei Steeplechase). In der dem 57-seitigen Booklet beiliegenden Biografie finden sich mehr Details zum musikalischen Werdegang von LaVerne, nebst willkommenen Tipps zu den mittelschweren bis schwierigeren Kompositionen des Sets. Das LaVerne-Trio mit Laverne (piano), Rufus Reid (bass) und John Riley (dm) hat die Tracks eingespielt. In der Produkteempfehlung (unten) finden sich zwei weitere Play-alongs von LaVerne: Vol. 75 (zu John Coltrane) und Vol. 85 (reizvoll neu reharmonisierte Jazzstandards), dazu ein paar empfehlenswerte LaVerne-CDs.
