We once were the loved ones, we once were the lost ones".
It is not hard to imagine these songs travelling through Europe. How they were given birth in Berlin's colourful melting pot of expressions and impressions by Andrea Kellerman's alter ego Firefox AK. How they danced all the way to the Swedish borders and were embraced by the Nordic melancholy. In Stockholm they were introduced to indiepop guru and producer Andreas Mattsson (Popsicle, Hello Saferide) who refined and made the good sound even better. When the songs returned to Andrea it was like Christmas Eve every time. "He got it right again", she stated soon after the music landed on her floor.
After two acclaimed albums the singer wanted an organic and more personal expression. To cooperate with Andreas Mattsson, bandmate in Hello Saferide but a newcomer when it comes to electronic music, showed to be a success. For the first time Andrea felt that she was mature enough to slightly lose control. The songs survived - even grew - without her interrupting in every phase of the process.
Soon the well-known duo of Lasse Mårtén (Johnossi) and Björn Yttling (Lykke Li, Peter, Bjorn & John) joined the project. The original idea was to let Lasse mix the album but after he produced one of the songs the result was so impressive that he ended up producing two more tracks. A couple of other songs were created together with Björn Yttling. OK, most songs were actually written in Andrea's hometown of Stockholm and while she was in Germany the songs were being sent as zipped files between two computers. The tracks never sat on that night train to Stockholm while the tight forest passed by outside the window. But still. Listening to Firefox AK's third album is like travelling between big cities and the countryside, between grand nature and the neon lights of the nightclubs. And underneath it all rests a fantastic foundation of the most beautiful, melancholic melodies you will hear in 2011.
(musikexpress, November 2011)
