2009 benannte die European Concert Hall Organisation den Klarinettisten Emil Jonason als »Rising Star«, und seitdem hat seine internationale Karriere Fahrt aufgenommen. Für seine erste BIS-Aufnahme hat er ein Konzert ausgewählt, das sein Landsmann Christian Lindberg für ihn schrieb.
Wie Lindberg berichtet, war der Interpret an allen Phasen des kompositorischen Prozesses beteiligt. Es entstanden sechs farbenreiche Sätze, die Herrn Grönstedts Träume illustrieren. Da Jonason von kleinauf von Klezmer Musik fasziniert war, lag es nahe, Lindbergs Konzert mit den »Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind« aus der Feder des Argentiniers Osvaldo Golijov zu kombinieren.
Im Unterschied zum fiktiven Mr. Grönstedt handelt es sich hier um eine historische Figur des Mittelalters, Rabbi Isaac. Das Werk bezieht sich auf jüdische Gebete, vor allem aber auf Klezmer-Melodien. Und der Komponist verlangt, dass der Interpret sich hiermit zu identifizieren habe.
