Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) zum literarischen Wortführer jener Ära, für die er das Schlagwort 'Jazz Age' prägte. Er hat das glitzernde New York der Zwischenkriegsjahre, das sich für die Rhythmen von Duke Ellington und Louis Armstrong begeisterte, zeitdokumentarisch eingefangen, ohne die Frage auszublenden, ob dieser Glanz trügerisch sei. Seine Helden, kaum verhüllte Porträts Fitzgeralds, strotzen vor Selbstbewußtsein und leiden zugleich an ihrem Ausbeuten der eigenen Seele.Biografie (Zelda Fitzgerald)
Zelda Fitzgerald wurde 1900 in Montgomery (Alabama) geboren. 1920 heiratete sie F. Scott Fitzgerald und zog mit ihm nach New York. Zusammen mit der 1921 geborenen Tochter Scottie machte das Paar viele Reisen, u.a. nach Frankreich, nach Italien und in die Schweiz. In Paris nahm sie Ballettstunden bei einer Tänzerin des Djagilew-Balletts. 1930 erlitt sie einen ersten Nervenzusammenbruch, der zur Einweisung in eine Nervenheilanstalt führte. 1948, acht Jahre nach dem Tod ihres Mannes, starb sie bei einem Brand im Highland Mental Hospital in Asheville (North Carolina).Biografie (Dorothy Parker)
Dorothy Parker, geb. 1893 als Dorothy Rothschild in West End, New Jersey, war Korrespondentin im Spanischen Bürgerkrieg und arbeitete als Theater- und Literaturkritikerin u.a. für Vanity Fair, Esquire und den New Yorker. Daneben schrieb sie zahlreiche Gedichte, Kurzgeschichten, Theaterstücke und Drehbücher. Am 7. Juni 1967 starb Dorothy Parker in New York an den Folgen eines Herzinfarkts. Ihr Leben wurde von Robert Altman verfilmt (Mrs. Parker and the Round Table).
