Biografie
Sybille Bedford, geb. 1911 in Berlin als Tochter des Barons von Schoenebeck und seiner englischen Gattin, wuchs in Deutschland, England, Italien und Frankreich auf. Als junges Mädchen lebte sie mit ihrer Mutter und derem zweiten, italienischen Ehemann an der Cote d'Azur, dem Zufluchtsort für viele europäische Künstler und Intellektuelle der Zeit. Alle ihre Romane und Reiseerzählungen schöpfen aus dem reichen biographischen Hintergrund. Sybille Bedford hat außerdem viele Jahre als Gerichtsreporterin berühmten Prozessen beigewohnt und darüber für 'Esquire' und 'Life' berichtet. Die Autorin ist am 17. Februar 2006 in London gestorben. Ihre Autobiographie, mit dem Titel 'Quicksands' 2005 in den USA und in England erschienen, wurde von der angelsächsischen Presse enthusiastisch gefeiert.
