First published in 1929, this slim, quietly astonishing fable has changed how readers understand success, wealth, and the workings of the mind by teaching a single principle -- that the power to master any condition lies within.
Originally published nearly a hundred years ago by an unknown author writing under the name John McDonald, The Message of a Master is a concise yet profound parable about a businessman facing failure who encounters a mysterious figure known only as the Master. Through a series of conversations -- first heard secondhand, then directly -- the businessman receives a set of teachings about the nature of the mind, desire, and achievement that gradually rewires how he understands what is possible for anyone seeking success.
The Master's central teaching is simple: The power to accomplish anything lies not in circumstances or luck, but in the relationship between the outer and inner mind. Outer circumstances, he counsels, are the result of inner states, not the other way around. Most people spend their lives trying to force results from the outside in. The Master teaches the reverse: Hold an objective clearly within, and the outer world will conform to it. "Any picture firmly held in any mind, in any form, is bound to come forth," he explains. "That is the great, unchanging Universal Law."
This 2027 edition, the first in more than thirty years, invites a new generation of readers to experience one of the classics of the prosperity tradition. It includes a preface by New World Library publisher, Marc Allen, who explains that the book found its way to him via a truck driver who handed Marc his own battered, out-of-print copy and suggested he read it. That copy became the basis for New World Library's 1993 edition, which has been in print ever since.
