Darren Lynch: Infectious, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

Infectious is a psychological horror thriller set against the rain-soaked landscapes and uneasy streets of Amsterdam and the surrounding Dutch countryside.

The story opens in the isolated marshes of Waterland, where Damien Soren is burying the body of Mia Jansen, a young deaf woman whose disappearance will become central to the events that follow. Damien's actions are rooted in a childhood shaped by violence and silence, revealing a disturbing connection between his past and the darkness he has carried into adulthood.

Elsewhere, Mia's disappearance leaves her brother Noah struggling with guilt and unanswered questions. Their final argument and her last communication replay constantly in his mind, forcing him to confront the possibility that he could have done something differently. His memories of Mia, from childhood through her final days, become increasingly painful as he searches for answers.

As the story unfolds, the lives of Ella, Lila, Noah and Damien become increasingly entangled. What initially appears to be a story of a missing woman develops into something much darker. Strange encounters, disturbing evidence, unexplained behaviour and a growing sense that someone is watching begin to close the distance between suspicion and reality.

Damien presents himself as charming, polite and seemingly harmless, yet there is something about him that Ella cannot ignore. As her unease grows, seemingly ordinary encounters take on a sinister meaning. Meanwhile, Noah's determination to understand what happened to Mia forces him deeper into a world where appearances cannot be trusted.

The investigation gradually exposes fragments of Damien's past, his disturbing relationship with silence, and the experiences that helped shape the person he has become. Evidence begins to emerge, but every answer creates another question. Alibis, memories, dreams and seemingly insignificant encounters all begin to connect.

As the tension escalates, the characters find themselves being watched, followed and drawn toward a confrontation they cannot fully understand. The discovery of new evidence and the appearance of people connected to Damien's past bring them closer to the truth, while Noah is forced to confront the guilt he has carried since Mia disappeared.

What follows is a race against time as the truth begins to surface. The past and present collide, revealing that the danger has been much closer than anyone realised. By the final chapters, the disappearance of Mia, Damien's history and the seemingly disconnected events throughout Amsterdam converge into a devastating truth.

Infectious explores obsession, trauma, guilt, manipulation, memory and the ways violence can pass from one generation to the next. It is a story about the things people hide, the stories we tell ourselves to survive, and the terrifying consequences of discovering that the person you thought you understood may never have been who you believed.
