Asian Insights into Indigenous Social Work Knowledges, Gebunden

Klappentext

This novel volume examines the central theme of decolonising social work through Asian indigenous insights, calling for a paradigm shift towards inclusive and culturally grounded knowledge systems.

The book draws on case studies from a range of countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mongolia, and Japan. Chapters use varied methods such as phenomenological analysis, field-based reflections, semi-structured interviews, and focus group discussions to illustrate the richness and diversity of indigenous social work practices. The book highlights the importance of inter-Asian knowledge exchange, focusing on themes such as community-driven welfare, community resilience, culturally sensitive practices, and the indigenisation of social work education. The case studies examine a broad range of rich contexts, such as ecological knowledge in Papua; faith-based welfare in Thai Muslim communities; and the indigenisation of community development in Bangladesh. The book offers strategies for integrating these indigenous insights into social work education and practice globally.

The book will be of use to scholars and postgraduates in the fields of social work, Asian studies, and the promotion of indigenous knowledge and practices. Educators developing inclusive and contextually relevant curricula will also benefit.
