Allison Blevins: Black Hole Experiments for Ladies, Kartoniert / Broschiert

Klappentext

In this poignant and experiental collection of micro-essays, Allison Blevins entwines her lifelong fascination with the cosmos and her current treatment for multiple sclerosis, juxtaposing her thinking on black holes in space and those found on MRI reports. Deeply engaged with the work of pioneering women astronomers--Marie Curie, Chien-Shiung Wu, and Katie Bouman, among them--Blevins considers how to relate big ideas about the universe to the personal stories we tell ourselves in order to persevere through circumstances both mundane and urgent. In a society that too often demands that we push chronic illness and disability to the side, making illness as mysterious as the stars, these essays ask us to slow down and grapple with intimate struggles rather than allowing ourselves to be alienated by them. Separate and lyrical, Blevins' essays comprise a constellation of writing on subjects large and local: cosmology, neurology, medical treatment, and family.
