Recorded over four nights in January of 1971 at New York’s Bitter End Club, it became one of Mayfield’s biggest-selling albums, spending thirty-eight weeks in America’s national album chart where it made the number 21 spot, as well as reaching number three in the soul chart.
As well as inspired versions of several songs from his debut album, the album includes Mayfield’s dynamic re-interpretations of some of his most popular songs from his days with The Impressions. His moving and soulful rendition of The Carpenter’s hit ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’ is just one of the album’s many highlights.
