Change of Pace on cpo: Cologne Swing
Harald Banter and the Media Band are remembered by WDR jazz fans as one of the all-time greats of the jazz firmament. During the three decades of its existence (1952-82) the Media Band wrote jazz history with its incredible stylistic breadth ranging from easy listening (German popular favorites in swingy arrangements) to sophisticated big band jazz standards. Harald Banter recorded some five thousand titles for the WDR during these years, and the Media Band’s regular radio broadcasts and many public concerts made it one of the leading orchestras in its North Rhine-Westphalia home region. Its guest soloists included Dusko Goykovich, Wolfgang Schlüter, Jiggs Whigham, and Albert Mangelsdorff. Our selection of swing numbers and ballads has what it takes. To be continued … on cpo, the label full of musical surprises!
