Mitreißend: Balletumsetzung 1984 nach Orwells Erfolgsroman
Jonathan Watkins Ballett 1984 ist nach dem gleichnamigen, bekannten dystopischen Roman von George Orwell konzipiert worden: Winston Smith lebt in einer Welt der totalen Konformität. Jede seiner Handlungen wird von »Big Brother« registriert, einem omnipräsenten Überwachungssystem. Als Winston auf Julia trifft, ändert dies alles: Er bricht aus dem Überwachungssystem aus und verliebt sich – mit fatalen Konsequenzen. Die Ballettversion des bekannten Stoffs wird vom Northern Ballet getanzt, das sich schon häufig mit epischen Ballettumsetzungen beschäftigt und sich einen guten Ruf in dem Genre erarbeitet hat. Die Musik hat der preisgekrönte Komponist Alex Baranowski beigesteuert, der bislang vor allem als Filmmusikkomponist bekannt geworden ist.
