Ende der 1960er-Jahre gründeten die drei Brüder Phil, Derek und Ray Shulman die erste Band aus der wenig später die Progressive-Rock-Combo Gentle Giant entstand. Für eine kurze Zeit spielte damals auch Reginald Dwight alias Elton John mit ihnen.
1970 folgte das Debüt der Band, ein Jahr später Album Nummer zwei und wieder ein Jahr danach der dritte Longplayer: alle drei absolute Prog-Rock-Klassiker.
Kein Geringerer als Steven Wilson nahm sich der Platten 2017 erneut an. Seinen Mix gibt es jetzt mit »Three Piece Suite«.
Three Piece Suite (5.1 & 2.0 Steven Wilson Mix)
Conventional CD, playable with all CD players and computer drives, but also with most SACD or multiplayers.
Blu-ray AudioThe Blu-ray Audio Disc (also Pure Audio Blu-ray) is technically a normal Blu-ray Disc and can be played on any Blu-ray player. However, it does not contain any video content. The high storage capacity is used for high-resolution audio data (stereo and surround, up to 24 bit/192 kHz). It is operated either without a screen like a conventional CD or via the onscreen menu like a normal Blu-ray disc.

Ausgewählte Sammlung im neuen Mix
Mit ihren ersten drei Alben »Gentle Giant«, »Acquiring The Taste« und »Three Friends« veröffentlichten Gentle Giant Anfang der 1970er-Jahre drei absolut stilprägende Werke des Progressive Rocks.
2017 widmete sich Starproduzent, Toningenieur und selbst Progressive-Rock-Ikone Steven Wilson den Aufnahmen erneut: »Three Piece Suite« heißt das Ergebnis seiner Arbeit.
Da viele der Originalbänder verschollen sind, schafften es allerdings nur insgesamt neun Titel der drei Alben auf die neue Platte, und zwar »Giant«, »Nothing At All« und »Why Not« aus dem Debütalbum »Pantagruel’s Nativity«, »The House, The Street, The Room« aus dem zweiten Longplayer sowie »Acquiring The Taste« und »Schooldays«, »Peel The Paint«, »Mr. Class And Quality« und »Three Friends« aus dem dritten Album. Alle Titel gibt es nun dank Wilson im brandneuen 5.1-Stereo-Mix.
Zu den Highlights von »Three Piece Suite« gehören außerdem zwei Bonussongs. »Freedom’s Child« entstand bei den ersten Aufnahmesessions mit Produzentenlegende Tony Visconti (David Bowie) und wurde bislang nie veröffentlicht. Außerdem wartet ein 7"-Edit von »Nothing At All«.
Abgerundet wird das Ganze von einem Booklet mit detaillierten Linernotes zu den Albumsessions von Journalist Anil Prasad.
