Der Kopf der »Bright Eyes« veröffentlicht im Mai 2009 sein zweites Album, wieder mit Unterstützung seiner Band »The Mystic Valley Band«. »Outer South« wurde Ende letzten Jahres in den Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillio, außerhalb von El Paso in Texas aufgenommen und die geografische Verortung hat sich auch auf den Musikstil ausgewirkt. Erstmal war auch die Band am Songwriting beteiligt.
