The SACD uses a higher digital resolution than the audio CD and also offers the possibility to store multi-channel sound (surround sound). To enjoy the music in high-end quality, a special SACD player is required. Thanks to the hybrid function, most of the products marked "SACD" in our store can also be played on conventional CD players. In this case, however, the sound does not differ from that of a normal CD. In case of deviations, we point this out separately (non-hybrid).

John Adams (Jahrgang 1947) gehört zu den wenigen zeitgenössischen Komponisten, deren Werke sich einen festen Platz im Repertoire erobert haben. Adams' Orchesterwerke zeichnen sich nicht zuletzt durch eine originelle und hochvirtuose Behandlung des Orchesterapparats aus.
Dies gilt auch für die aus seiner jüngsten Erfolgsoper ›Doctor Atomic‹ destillierte Sinfonie, die hier mit zwei weiteren Erfolgsstücken des Komponisten gekoppelt ist: ›Harmonielehre‹, Adams' erstem Orchesterwerk von 1985, und ›Short Ride in a fast Machine‹, eine von Adams' »Fanfares for Orchestra«, die 1986 für ein Festival des Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra entstand.
