Mit ihrer voluminösen, warmen Stimme ist Jane Monheit eine Ausnahmeerscheinung der Jazz-Sängerinnen-Szene. Zwar kann auch sie scatten wie Ella und singt Songs, mit denen auch Diana Krall oder Madeleine Peyroux zu hören sind, bei ihr stehen aber immer Gefühl und Melodie im Vordergrund.

Auf ihrem neunten Album und nach 13 Jahren auf Tour besinnt sich Jane Monheit jetzt ganz besonders auf diese Qualitäten. Zwar finden sich in ihrem Song-Repertoire auch immer noch Jazz-Klassiker, aber mehr denn je öffnet sie sich einem breiter gefächerten Programm schlicht und einfach schöner Songs, u. a. aus der Feder von Lennon / McCartney, Randy Newman oder dem brasilianischen Star-Songwriter Ivan Lins. Zum ersten Mal ist auch ein Song aus eigener Feder dabei. Produziert wurde auch dieses Monheit-Album einmal mehr von Grammy-Gewinner Gil Goldstein, der auch schon mit Pat Metheny und anderen Größen arbeitete.

The Heart Of The Matter the 11th CD from critically-acclaimed Grammy-nominated vocalist Jane Monheit, will be released by Emarcy Records. An homage to great songwriters and voices from across a variety of musical genres, Monheit has crafted a carefully chosen and eclectic selection of twelve tunes ranging from “Golden Slumbers / The Long And Winding Road” by The Beatles to Buffy St. Marie’s “Until It’s Time For You To Go” to “Depende de Nos” by Ivan Lins; finishing it off with her take on the Sesame Street classic, “Sing,” a song she often sings for her young son Jack. In addition, The Heart Of The Matter contains the first song recorded by Jane on which she has written both the words and the music, “Night Night Stars.” The release of “The Heart Of The Matter” will be accompanied by select tour dates worldwide.

Said Monheit, “This album is really different from my last. I knew it was time for the focus of a project to be lyrical interpretation…over the years, it’s become the most important part of my approach to music. The songs were chosen just for that reason…I didn’t worry about genre or style…just that each song dealt with a message I wanted to share or story I wanted to tell.”
