Vaughan Williams hat seine siebensätzige Suite aus der Oper »Sir John in Love« über Shakespeares Falstaff nie vollendet. Er hinterließ lediglich einen Auszug für zwei Klaviere, noch unter dem Arbeitstitel der Oper »Fat Knight«, woraus Martin Yates unter Zuhilfenahme von Orchestrierungen aus der fertigen Oper die Orchestersuite erstellte. Die ebenfalls im Orchesterarrangement von Martin Yates zu hörende »Henry V«-Ouvertüre gibt einen Vorgeschmack auf die ein Jahrzehnt später von William Walton komponierte Musik zu der Shakespeare-Verfilmung. Das Vaughan-Williams- Programm wird abgerundet mit der Orchesterfassung der »Serenade to Music«, komponiert 1938 zum fünfzigjährigen Bühnenjubiläum des Dirigenten Sir Henry Wood.
