"The best thing to happen in Afro Soul music since Miriam Makeba? A talent to rival Lauryn Hill, India Arie, Erykah Badu? Without a doubt. Get used to the name. Simphiwe Dana has a voice that pulls you up short." Songlines
A 2008 World Music Awards nominee, Simphiwe Dana has become an ambassador for South African Afro-Jazz and has toured the world extensively. Her incredible vocal range, thoughtful, mature songwriting and her unique and progressive self-styling have distinguished her in festivals and major venues worldwide. Her debut album Zandisile reaching Number 1 on the Billboard World Music charts, something a South African act had not achieved in many years.
Kulture Noir is the highly anticipated follow-up to her two critically acclaimed previous releases; in South Africa the platinum selling Zandisile (2004) and gold selling The One Love Movement On Bantu Biko Street (2006).
Kulture Noir boasts twelve new songs and builds on Dana's trademark fusion of deep African musical roots, inspired melodies and a stunningly unique contemporary voice. The result is another beautifully crafted collection to add to the South African songbook. Kulture Noir was recorded alongside acclaimed producers from the African continent and Diaspora including Thapelo Khomo, producer of her debut Zandisile; Nigeria's 'Afro Juju' and jazz guitar maestro Kunle Ayo; and the SAMA Award winning Mozambican artist and producer Moreira Chonguica.
