1970: Starting capital - two trestle tables

Gerhard Georg Ortmann and Johannes Stuckenberg sell the first records in front of the universities in Cologne and Göttingen – with the aid of two trestle tables.

1973: The name is now part of the programme

The name jpc is born. jpc stands for jazz - pop - classic.

1973: The first retail outlet

Opening of the first jpc record shop. Today, jpc has three retail outlets

1976: The first jpc-courier

The first jpc-courier to appear is a black-and-white list. To this very day, the jpc-courier is an important medium for informing our customers.

1981: Start up of jpc mail order business

The shipping department is run as a separate company.

1984: The classic label cpo

Our passion is classical music. cpo enables us to offer our customers exclusive recordings and to satisfy unusual requests.

1991: Move to site in Georgsmarienhütte

State-of-the-art logistics in our operational headquarters ensures the smooth processing of orders. Around 70,000 items are always in stock.

1996: jpc on the Internet

Following jpc’s earlier success back in the eighties in selling music via video-text, the company is also on the Internet from the very start. Today, around 70 percent of the company’s sales are generated via this medium.

2009: A medium-sized company

jpc is Europe’s largest provider of classical music. The motto “music à la carte” stands for a vast selection of more than 2.5 million items and outstanding customer service.
