Im Februar 2001 waren die Berliner Philharmoniker mit ihrem Dirigenten Claudio Abbado Gäste der Academia di Santa Cecilia in Rom. Sie gaben dort ein Programm in dessen Mittelpunkt die Beethoven-Sinfonien standen- mit überwältigendem Erfolg. Jede ihrer Vorstellungen wurde mit standing ovations bedacht.
