Auf Grundlage der jüngsten Forschung werden die "Sieben Worte Christi am Kreuz" inzwischen wirklich Pergolesi zugeschrieben. Bereits Hermann Scherchen hatte sie als "eines der innigsten Kunstwerke, voll von Sanftmut, tiefstem Empfinden und alles überstrahlendem Schönheitsgefühl" beschrieben.
Dieses Hauptwerk des neapolitanischen Barock (1736) erlebte seine Konzertpremiere im Juli 2012 beim Festival in Beaune, wenige Tage, bevor diese Aufnahme entstand.
