Samuel Barber ging innerhalb der amerikanischen Moderne ganz eigene Wege: er scheute weder Melodie noch Emotion, verweigerte sich nicht der klaren Linie und fand in seiner Musik zu klaren Aussagen durch klare Linienführung.
