150 Jahre nach seiner Geburt wird Jean Sibelius als Meistersinfoniker des 20. Jahrhunderts gefeiert. Zu diesem Anlass kehrt Decca zu den Originalbändern eines, von der Kritik gefeierten Zyklus zurück: Lorin Maazels Aufnahme von Sibelius‘ Sieben Sinfonien mit den Wiener Philharmonikern. Mit dem Orchester, mit dem Maazel eine über 50 Jahre währende Zusammenarbeit verbindet, nahm der große Dirigent in den 1960er Jahren den kompletten Zyklus auf.

Nicht ganz gelungen

Diese analogen Aufnahmen aus den 60er Jahren zeigen auf CD 1 (Sinf. Nr. 1+4) exakte Rhythmik, überzeugende Stimmführung, klaren (durchsichtigen) Klang. - CD 2 (Sinf. 2+3) überbetont Höhen und ist überhaupt der Aufnahmetechnik ausgeliefert: Eine Reihe von Abschnitten ist übertrieben leise, und es ist die A-B-Stereophonie zu deutlich. Die Einspielung wirkt nervös. - Sinf. Nr.6 auf CD 3 zeigt ebenfalls beträchtliche Nervosität, mit Ausnahme des letzten Satzes, der wie Sinf. 5+7 Tugenden von CD 1 zeigt. - Das mehrsprachige Beiheft hat leider sehr kleine Schrift.
