Die Musikwelt trauert um Gustav Leonhardt, der am 16. Januar 2012 verstarb. Er war einer der renommiertesten Cembalo- und Orgelspieler der Welt und galt als einer der größten Spezialisten für Alte Musik überhaupt.

In seiner über 50jährigen Karriere entstanden zahlreiche hochkarätige Aufnahmen für die Label dhm, seon und Vivarte, von denen eine Auswahl in dieser Gustav Leonhardt-Edition erscheinen. Neben berühmten Solo-Einspielungen wie den legendären Goldberg-Variationen und Bachs Orgel- und Cembalowerken enthält die Edition Aufnahmen mit Sigiswald Kuijken, Frans Brüggen, Anner Bylsma, dem Leonhardt-Consort und Harry van der Kamp. (Der Inhalt der Edition ist identisch mit der vergriffenen Jubiläums-Edition zum 80. Geburtstag Leonhardts.)

Diese limitierte 15CD-Edition gibt eine Rückschau auf das vielfältige musikalische Schaffen eines außergewöhnlichen Künstlers, dessen zentraler Focus auf der Interpretation von Alter Musik lag und immer noch liegt. Zeugnis davon geben mehr als 180 Aufnahmen, von denen eine repräsentative Auswahl in dieser Jubiläums-Edition enthalten.
