Das Orgelspiel Fresobaldis soll seinerzeit 30.00 Zuhörer in den Petersdom gelockt haben. Auch wenn man solche Zahlen heute als maßlose posthume Übertreibung ansieht, dürfte man ihn schon als den "Starorganisten" des 17. Jahrhunderts bezeichnen. Frescobaldis zahlreiche Sammlungen mit Musik für Tasteninstrumente zeichnen das Bild eines erfindungsreichen, innovativen Komponisten, dessen Einfluß weit über die Alpen reichte. Nicht ohne Gruns wurde er später sogar noch von Johann Sebastian Bach hochgeschätzt.
