Der Sohn einer deutsch-englischen Kaufmannsfamilie kam nach Florida, um dort als Farmer Geld zu verdienen, ließ sich von der Musik der amerikanischen Südstaatler faszinieren, komponierte eine Florida-Suite, kehrte nach Europa zurück und nahm seine musikalische Laufbahn in Angriff. Spätromantische Epik und impressionistische Klangwelten prägen sein Schaffen, das er in ekstatischer Naturverehrung zu Papier brachte. Die 18-CD-Box zu seinem 150.
