Seine Musik steht für die lyrische, empfindsame und gefühlsbetonte Spielart der Klassischen Musik. Er selbst ist zum Prototyp des romantischen einsamen Künstlers geworden. Die Rede ist von Frédéric Chopin (1.3.1810-17.10.1848), einem der wenigen Komponisten, die fast ihr ganzes Œuvre einzig und allein dem Klavier anvertraut haben. 2010 feiert die Musikwelt Chopins 200. Geburtstag. EMI Classics feiert mit und bringt eine bisher nie dagewesene Box mit sämtlichen Chopinwerken heraus.

Die 16 CDs bilden eine wahre Schatztruhe der Klaviermusik, gehören doch Chopins nach wie vor höchst populäre Préludes, Mazurken, Balladen, Walzer und Polonaisen, seine Nocturnes und Konzerte zum ewigen Bestand der Klassik. Viele Kinofilme entlehnten ihren Soundtrack aus Chopins Werk; einige ranken sich sogar um seine Musik (etwa Polanskis "Der Pianist").
