Die frühen Klavierwerke von 1903 - 1909

Viele der frühen Kompositionen für Klavier von Béla Bartók wurden bei der Bestandsaufnahme übersehen oder nie auf einer CD veröffentlicht. Béla Bartóks Werke dieser Zeit zeigen deutlich Spuren Liszts als virtuosen Pianisten. Ganz besonders vernehmlich ist das in der ambitionierten Studie für die linke Hand, dem ersten seiner Vier Klavierstücke. Auch die Zwei Elegien zeigen eindeutige Liszt-Einflüsse. Bartók gehörte zu den Komponisten, die auch Transkriptionen eigener Werke machten, so hat er die zwei letzten Teile seiner Sinfonischen Dichtung Kossuth in Form eines Trauermarsches transkribiert. Ähnlich ging er bei den Arrangements zweier seiner Lieder vor, die unter dem Titel Petits Morceaux erschienen. Hinter dem Titel The First Term at the Piano verbirgt sich eine Reihe von entzückenden Lehrstücken.
